A question that earns its keep

Not every question is philosophical. Some are decorations for a conclusion already chosen.

A Socratic question has a job: it exposes a contradiction the speaker did not notice. “What would count as evidence that I am wrong?” does more work than “How can I defend this?”

Try it on a belief you like. If you cannot name disconfirming evidence, you do not have a belief. You have a preference wearing a serious coat.
