Habits run on cue, action, and payoff
A habit is a learned shortcut. A cue appears, an action follows, a payoff teaches the brain to repeat.
If you only attack the action, the cue still fires and the payoff still waits. Change is more reliable when you redesign the cue (put the book on the pillow) or the payoff (make the first two minutes pleasant enough to repeat).
Identity lectures are optional. Environment is not.
